Quote:
Writing has so much to give, so much to teach, so many surprises. That thing you had to force yourself to do—the actual act of writing—turns out to be the best part. It’s like the discovering that while you thought you needed the tea ceremony for the caffeine, what you really needed was the tea ceremony. The act of writing turns out to be its own reward- Anne Lamott—Bird by Bird
My Reflection:
Writing is a way to hold on to the survival of surprise. It is a way to prepare to see, observe, and experience awe and wonder. As described above, writing is an experience in itself. It may be more about preparing us for surprise rather than all the writing we do attempting to “plan” ourselves out of surprise.
People don’t always get what they want, but they do get what they need. Where are your needs taking you?
